Thanks to all that provided their feedback on the Draft Climate Change Action Plan.
We are also currently consulting on a New Local Plan for Haringey . The Plan will set out how and where new development will occur in Haringey over the next 15 years and is a key tool for addressing the climate emergency. At the request of members of the community we are holding an extra virtual engagement event tomorrow at 6pm . You can join the event which is being held on Microsoft teams by clicking here.
Alternatively, you can visit our engagement website where you can sign up for events and provide feedback on what the New Local Plan should contain and address: https://haringeynewlocalplan.commonplace.is/
Please note that the formal consultation periods ends at 5pm on 1 February 2021.
Hope to see you tomorrow!
Planning Policy Team
We'd like to wish everyone a lovely holiday period, whether you celebrate Christmas or any other holiday! It's a good time to celebrate the positives of this past year (and try to get past the tougher times). It's also a good opportunity to look ahead. For us, we're excited that 2021 will be the year that we adopt the Climate Change Action Plan, continue our efforts to reduce emissions and implement our ambitious plan.
If you're looking for any last-minute, sustainable gifts for your loved ones, check out Crop Drop's Haringey sustainable gift guide . Or, have a look at Haringey's Christmas Advent Calendar showcasing lots of offers from local businesses. This will this help support our local businesses in these difficult times. For gifts made locally, it will also significantly reduce the emissions from sending the gifts over long distances. And, if you want to reduce your packaging because it is made from plastic and is polluting our natural environment, put your order in at the Harmless store in Crouch End.
Are you looking for sustainable wrapping ideas? Have you tried furoshiki fabric wraps, a Japanese tradition of reusing gift wrapping? Or you could reuse old wrapping paper, old newspaper, magazine pages, or pieces of cloth or other materials. Decorations could include stamps, drawings, herbs, snippets of your Christmas tree, of reused ribbon. You can find creative ideas suggestions here or on this blog . And, you can start your own supply of recycled gift wrapping this year! I personally have a big supply of fun, oddly shaped pieces; my quilt-wrapped presents are my signature pieces.
Please take this opportunity to try out our Carbon Projects Priority Simulator if you haven't already! The interactive website gives you a unique chance to find out more about our carbon reduction plans.
Please share our external Climate Change Action Plan engagement pages with people you know who live, work or volunteer locally. And, please take a look at the other parts of the webpage if you haven't already .
You have until 4th January to submit your comments on Commonplace.A major driver in upgrading our building stock to Energy Performance Certificate B by 2035 is by setting ambitious and enforceable planning policies. Colleagues in the planning policy team are looking for feedback and ideas on how you think our policies can achieve better, more sustainable developments. This includes:
Please join one of two virtual engagement events on Tuesday 8th December (they will cover the same topic). We will be joining as well, and we will specifically talk about addressing climate change in buildings. Please click on the links below to sign up on the Eventbrite page:
To find out more and provide written feedback, visit the Local Plan climate emergency and sustainable transport page . Other events will also be organised about Biodiversity and Open Spaces (14th January 2021) and Transport (18th January 2021), please visit their page on virtual engagement events .
Do you have any more feedback on the Draft Climate Change Action Plan?Of course, don’t forget to come back to the draft Climate Change Action Plan webpages if you haven’t commented on everything yet. Do you have any ideas of low-carbon projects that could take place in your area? Have you tried the carbon priority simulator yet?
We look forward to hearing from you!
During the autumn months, the Muswell Hill Sustainability Group usually run tours of Local Green Homes that have been retrofitted. You can go to their YouTube channel to watch videos of this year's virtual Local Green Homes tours . You can find out how they made their homes more energy efficient, and watch a video about green homes technologies.
We hope this will be inspirational to any plans you might have. Not everyone will be able to make their home an eco home, but everyone can take steps to reduce their energy use at home, like reducing the draughts in your windows and doors.
So, if you haven't already commented on our housing questions , please take the time to do so now! By providing feedback on the challenges and opportunities to retrofit your homes, we will be able to address these challenges in our revised Climate Change Action Plan.
We invite you to take a look at our carbon priority simulator tool! On this interactive tool you can tell us what carbon reduction projects you would prioritise in the first phase of implementing the borough's draft action plan.
You will be given an imaginary set of points that you can spend which roughly represent the cost and carbon reduction levels of the proposed actions. Have a play and learn a bit more about our action plan!
If you haven't had the time to read about other parts of the draft Climate Change Action Plan that you're interested in, take the opportunity to visit our platform again and share the website with people you know in Haringey.
